What is the missing link for creating a supportive and empowering birth and postpartum experience for NICU families?

I'll give you a hint... Doulas.

While NICU teams are trained to provide excellent medical care for newborns who require higher level care, a NICU stay often leaves the families behind.

Parents are immediately jolted into fight-or-fight mode as they focus on the health and care of their baby, often at the cost of neglecting their own health.

These families are left to navigate the postpartum period with limited physical and emotional support and care which sets them up for the deplorably high levels of perinatal mood disorders that NICU families experience.

My dream is to create a whole network of “NICU-informed” doulas who are trained to be able to provide the care and support that NICU babies and their families deserve before, during and after a NICU stay.

What to Expect

In this FREE 60-minute live workshop, you’ll learn:

🩷 NICU facts and stats

🩷 How NICU families are “set up” for perinatal mental health disorders

🩷 Overview of what makes NICU babies different than "regular" babies

🩷 How doulas are uniquely positioned to change the NICU narrative

🩷 Live Q&A session before wrapping up

If you cannot make it live, no worries! The recording will be available on demand.

Together, we can create a more compassionate and supportive environment for NICU babies and their families, ensuring they feel empowered and cared for every step of the way

MARY FARRELLY, NICU NURSE AND NICU DOULA EDUCATOR

Mary is a certified NICU nurse, doula, nurse educator, mom of two and the founder of The NICU Translator where she helps to bridge the gap between the NICU and home through education, community and 1:1 support.

As a Level IV NICU nurse and nurse educator for over a decade, she has worked with hundreds of NICU families both by treating patients at the bedside and by creating and teaching a comprehensive curriculum for new nurses. Her expertise in neonatal pathophysiology and best practices has been invaluable in preparing nurses and other support professionals to deliver top-tier care to the most vulnerable babies and their families.
